It is more blessed to give than to receive- Acts 20: 35
In the little time I have spent here on earth, I’ve never met a true giver who lacks. I always wondered how it works though, I mean there had to be a formula that I could use to achieve the awesomeness that is to be without lack. After studying the word, listening to people, and just researching in general, I came to the conclusion that there wasn’t an exact formula for giving, and the fact that you give doesn’t mean that you will automatically have wealth. I know what you must be thinking at this point. Didn’t you just say people who truly give never lack? Well for me, true wealth isn’t having a lot of possessions; it is having what you need, exactly when you need it.
Giving to me is all about stewardship. I know that everything I own wouldn’t be mine today if not for the grace of God therefore if they aren’t mine to start with, why would I hoard them? It is just like the parable of the talents (Matt. 25-14-30). God has given each and every one of us something (some may have an abundance of time, others may have incredible talents, and the rest resources) and when we use these gift/resources to bless others, God honors that; It just the way God works.
Another aspect of giving is tithing; It is giving unto God what is His. You know how I said earlier that nothing I have is mine, and everything belongs to God? Well, why would I withhold something that belongs to God from Him? when all He asks for is a tenth anyway? It is just a way of letting God know that we are thankful for everything that He has done for us. I have been personally convicted of this and although I would like very much that everyone should tithe, it is my hope that we all do a little bit of praying and soul searching to determine how we can honor God.
I pray that as we all give, we do so with a heart that is cheerful, because who doesn’t like a cheerful giver eh?
PS: Always be kind to people, and do not give only when it’s convenient for you.
